“The beauty of the MACNY/ESF [program] is the effective integration of refocused
scientific and technical education expertise, much of which is readily available,
to specifically educate, train and certify associate, bachelor, graduate and post-graduate
candidates for these high-demand industries.” James T. Walsh, Member of
Congress
“We in Central New York, were largely left behind the economic expansion
of the last decade. A substantial reason for the failure of our region to participate
in the unprecedented period of growth, was the lack of an appropriately trained
big technology work force. We will have the ability under this grant to retrain
our engineers, technicians, and scientist to meet the needs of local companies
in four high growth areas.” Cornelius B. Murphy, Jr, Ph.D., President, SUNY
College of Environmental Science and Forestry
“We believe the indoor environmental quality and green building markets
are poised for significant growth in the near future. We especially applaud the
opportunity to participate in all phases of this training initiative to ensure
that the curriculum and delivery mechanisms are relevant and current in our rapidly
evolving technologies and business environment.” John J. Vasselli, Executive
Vice President, New York Indoor Environmental Quality Center
“One of our Firm’s cultural values is “We commit to a nurturing
work environment in which our employees can grow and excel,” which is why
we fully support [the collaborative initiative].” Robert K. Goldman, P.E.,
Chief Executive Officer, Blasland, Bouck and Lee, Inc.
“For O’Brien & Gere, this program will add value and benefit to
our organization by providing engineers trained in advanced computer aided design,
geographic infomraiton systems, and remote sensing.” Terry L. Brown, Chairman
and Chief Executive Officer, O’Brien and Gere Limited
“This project is important to the C&S Companies because our employees
utilize many of the high technology skills addressed by this training program,
including GIS and indoor environmental quality engineering.” Orrin B. MacMurray,
P.E., President and CEO, C&S Companies
The reINVENTCNY certificate programs represent emerging technology of global interest
with expertise in Central and Upstate New York. The Essential New York report
indicates that firms involved in biosciences and environmental systems grew by
22.9 and 17.2 percent respectively between 1998 and 2003, with more growth expected.
Counties in this region make up the “knowledge corridor” with the
highest concentration of college students in the country and over $1.2 billion
in research and development per year at six of the nation’s largest research
institutions.
How do the over 2,200 emerging technology companies drive economic growth in the
region and keep up to date with the latest in technology? They create new technology…and
count on research conducted at schools like SUNY College of Environmental Science
and Forestry and Syracuse University. And count on practical applications of that
research through the endeavors of organizations such as the NYIEQ and Centers
of Excellence.
What brings research and business together? How do these companies find trained
workers in these new fields? The reINVENTCNY certificate programs provide the
perfect vehicle to match the needs of business with the capabilities of our Region’s
academic institutions.
You can be a part of this critical initiative. You can become involved and join
an ever enlarging group of Central Upstate New York leaders who help to shape
the workforce of tomorrow and the economic reality today.
