ERE 898:
Dr. James M. Hassett

Dr. Jim Hassett is the Professor and Chair of the Department of Environmental Resources and Forest Engineering at SUNY ESF. He has a Doctorate in Civil Engineering from Syracuse University and also serves as an adjunct faculty at SU. He is also a contributing faculty member to the Department of Environmental Studies and to the Central New York Advanced Course in Engineering. He received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1991 and is a member of several prestigious professional societies. Dr. Hassett has mentored many graduate students over the years at the PhD and Masters level, many of whom have stayed in the Central New York region and advanced professionally. He has authored many scientific articles in refereed journals, has taught several courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and is a pioneering scientist in the area of environmental engineering.

Paul Szemkow
Paul Szemkow holds a MPS degree in GPS and Photogrammetry from SUNY-ESF and has extensive experience in using GPS-related software such as Trimble, Leica and Magellan, DVP and DMS softcopy photogrammetry, ARC/INFO, PC ARC/INFO and GRASS GIS, and ERDAS image processing software. He also serves as the System administrator for SUN, NT, RT and PC computer systems, and associated software and hardware resident on those systems including SunOS, ARC/INFO, SAS and MATLAB. Additionally, he is also the GPS Base Station System Administrator, responsible for the support, operation, maintenance and dispersal of data collected by Global Positioning System base station utilized by staff, faculty and community. He has been involved with teaching several GPS courses at ESF, including GPS-I and II and Applied GPS. He has also coordinated GPS workshops at ESF.

ERE 550:
Dr. Bill Stiteler
Dr. William (Bill) Stiteler has a PhD in Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing from SUNY-ESF and has nine years of accumulated teaching and research experience in the field. He has been involved with a NASA-funded project on application of remote sensing in forest management and with various other research activities in the NASA ARC (Affiliated Research Center) at SUNY-ESF. He has assisted in the teaching of several mapping science courses such as Engineering Graphics, Introduction to Photogrammetry and Introduction to GPS. He has also been involved with the conception and design of a spatial modeling package distributed over the internet, has authored numerous funding proposals, and has been instrumental as a liaison with state forestry organizations.

ERE 610:
Dr. Scott Larsen
Dr. Scott Larsen is a PhD in Environmental and Resource Engineering from SUNY-ESF, and has served as visiting professor in the College since 1998. He has also worked with CMT, Inc. as an Environmental Engineer and with Strathmore Products as a Radiation Curable Coatings Formulator. He has wide-ranging experience with CAD systems as an engineering/design professional and his expertise lies in the areas of Wood Technology, Computer-Aided Design, Materials Testing, and Environmental Engineering. He has been presented courses in AutoCAD 2000 and R13, and has been involved with converting drafted operations to a CAD system. He has created solid models of various steam turbine components for assurance of compatibility and fabrication and has designed and engineered intricate bars, reception desks and workstations. He also has extensive experience in material testing of concrete, soils, brick and wood in accordance with ASTM specifications.

Ronald Burlin
Ronald Burlin is a professional constructor with more than 25 years of management and company ownership experience involving commercial, industrial and civil projects in both private and public sectors. His projects located from Texas to Maine have ranged from small renovations to mega-projects with values in the hundreds of millions. A client list includes Bristol-Myers Squibb, Carrier Corporation, Sprint, Enel North America, Armstrong World Industries and numerous public entities including SUNY-ESF having constructed the sign at the main entrance to the campus. Professional associations include board of director service with the Associated General Contractors of America(AGC), Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) and membership and participation in the Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA), the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) and the Syracuse Builders Exchange (SBE). He owns and operates Midstate Building Services Group, L.L.C. providing construction management and consulting and is involved with the DestiNY USA project with The Hunt Construction Group.
